La Fille Du Cirque
Go Join the Circus
Camille O'Sullivan, an award-winning architect
and painter, is now fulfilling her dream of performing in a circus
by traveling the world with the Spiegeltent – September marked her
U.S. debut. Camille tells the Resident about her new CD. "My
album, 'La Fille Du Cirque,' was a live gig which was recorded in
the famous Spiegeltent in Melbourne [during] November, 2005. That
particular show had just been in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in
the tent for three weeks in August and I ended up bringing it to
Melbourne, where the owner of the tent, David Bates, played on piano
and we got the most wonderful musicians from Melbourne to perform
with. It includes songs by Jacques Brel, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, [and]
David Bowie. To me, it captures the spirit of the show, all the
different characters and their stories, contemporary songs mixed
with sowings from the past." Visit www.camilleosullivan.com for more

fellow BEP, will.i.am, features collaborations with the likes of
Ludacris and Rita Marley.
Thirteen is NOT Unlucky
On Friday
the 13th, author Lemony Snicket will release the 13th
and final book in his series, A Series of Unfortunate Events
. Called simply, "The End," 2.5 million copies of the book are
expected to hit stands in just the first printing. In The End,
readers will find the Baudelaire siblings stuck on a desert island
with Count Olaf. While not exactly the most, er, 'happy' books,
they have always remained popular among children and adults alike.
The books were even made into a movie last year with actor/comedian
Jim Carrey and Meryl Streep. Mr. Snicket is currently touring the
country in his own series of unfortunate events called "For Crying
Out Loud: A Reading by Lemony Snicket, with Music by The Gothic
Archies, featuring Lemony Snicket on Percussion." The mysterious
writer spoke with the Resident about his books and
unfortunate career. To finish the series, Mr. Snicket told us, was,
"a certain not-unpleasant dislocation." And although readers have
encountered many characters along the way in his series, Mr. Snicket
said, "I've always been fond of Humbert Humbert." And what's next
for Mr. Snicket now that he finished his series? More writing,
perhaps? "I'm quite behind on my thank-you notes," he says. Oh, and
when asked what his REAL name was—because we all know 'Lemony
Snicket' is a pseudonym—the coy writer replied, "Surely the New
York Resident, for which I used to write, knows that everybody
is hiding something." Fans of the elusive Lemony Snicket can catch
his reading—and see what he really looks like!—in New York City on
October 13 at the Union Square Barnes and Noble.
You Talkin’ To Me?
New
York native Cara Buono currently stars on HBO's The Sopranos as
Kelli Moltisani, wife of Christopher Moltisani, Tony Soprano's
closest ally. We spoke with the actress about her role on the show,
which is currently on break but will be back soon enough. She told
us she never thought of herself as a replacement for actress Drea de
Matteo, who was killed off on the show and was Christopher's initial
main squeeze. "I was a big fan already of Drea's work," says Cara.
"It kind of hit me what a big deal doing this show really was
mid-day through my first day. I was nervous on the first day of
shooting. I couldn't sleep the night before!" The Bronx-bred
actress, who also appeared on the shows Third Watch and
CSI told us she loves working in Manhattan. "It's my hometown. I
love New York so much and have so much pride in New York. And being
on location here, even if I have a 5am call, is so energizing."
Cara, who has also dappled in theatre and in movies, told us when it
comes to acting, she has no real preference over TV acting, Stage or
Film. "I go wherever the good material is." When she's not acting,
Cara volunteers at St. Luke's hospital with trauma patients and is
getting ready to run the NYC marathon. 'My friends are teasing me
and telling me I'm going to run with Lance Armstrong because he's
running too." Recently, she appeared in the movie Beer League,
which will be out on DVD soon. "It's raucous funny with intelligent
and smart humor," she says. We asked the Columbia University grad
what advice she has for would-be actors "Say yes to everything in
the beginning," she advises. "And don't do it if it doesn't feel
right."
Music to Our Ears
Recording artist Russ Lorenson will be performing
BENEDETTO/BLESSED: A Tribute to the Life and Music of Tony Bennett,
on October 13-14 & 21 at The Hideaway Room at Helen's, NYC
and October 20, Iridium Jazz Club, NYC. Lorenson tells the
Resident what he has planned for his NY fans, "Well, in keeping
with Mr. Bennett's 'dual citizenship' in the worlds of pop and jazz,
I'm bringing the show to two different clubs. The Hideaway Room at
Helen's is more of a typical 'cabaret' room, and the set list there
will reflect more of Mr. Bennett's pop-oriented material. Iridium
Jazz Club is one of the top jazz clubs in New York and even the
world, so the show there will focus on more of the jazz material."
The show was created, in part, to honor Mr. Bennett's 80th birthday,
which he celebrated on August 3, 2006. In addition, Lorenson's CD
"What I Want For Christmas" was released on September 12th. Visit
